Screwed up last night and didn't post my finals. I'm just over 56K words. Thomas is telling his history and we're just finding out that Kurilan (the evil Mage) is consolidating his power through intimidation, bribery and murder to take over the Guild of the Silver Dagger. He is getting ready to propose that "for the good of the people", that they start experimenting with magic to create life and restore life to the dead.
Arun rode the back of a red. Scales stronger than iron rose and fell as the massive muscles beneath them worked the dragon's wings. The city shrank in the distance as Ramithese carried him to heights known only to creatures gifted with flight. The ground had long ago fallen away. Huge branches were little more than twigs from this high in the air. Rivers were but off-colored lines curving through fields and prairies, reflecting the morning's sunlight in shimmers of silver. Arun had never felt so free.
